3- Quest for Identity in Selected Modern American Plays
ملخص الرسالة
This thesis studies the protagonist’s quest for identity in selected plays of modem American drama. The first two are: The Emperor Jones (1920) and The Hail), Ape (1922) by Eugene O’Neill. The second two are: Death of a Salesman (1949) and A View from the Bridge (1955) by Arthur Miller. The study adopts a framework that consists of two elements: the journey the main character or other characters undertake and its metaphorical implications, and secondly, the conflicts the protagonists wrestle with, be it outer or inner.
